CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture farms)

These are local farms - you buy a seasonal share of anticipated produce - shares are paid for in advance, then they grow beautiful food and you pick up your share of several pounds of produce weekly or every other week throughout the season - usually June through October; check with each farm about its growing practices (a good place to start is their websites).

Choosing to eat fresh, seasonal, vegetables contributes to good health and plays an important role in the local, rural economy -helping to keep small farms small farms -not small subdivisions. Your entire food dollar goes directly to the farmer, and is not divided between fuel companies, freight lines and large produce distributors. (Huguenot Street Farm website)
