Minnewaska Distance Swimmers Association - pass a swim test and pay a $20 annual fee (+ entrance fee into Minnewaska State Park - you might want to get an Empire Passport) and you can swim off of the distance swimmer's beach at Lake Minnewaska - more space to swim than the family beach; you don't have to be an uber-athlete to do this - just take your time during the test and then just enjoy being in the water surrounded by the mountain laurel and the cliffs
